诗歌鉴赏安史之乱后,吐蕃的侵犯成为干扰唐帝国的重要外因 。广德元年(763)十月,吐蕃贵族武装乘唐军忙于收拾安史之乱残局之际,大举东侵,竟连破泾邠二州,攻占唐都长安达十三天。此次进犯被唐军击退之后,他们又从与四川交界的南路向唐王朝发动进攻,在同年十二月,又连破松、维、保三州及云山二新城。

广德二年春 ,严武接替高适,再度出任剑南节度使。刚一到任,他就狠抓军队的训练,当年秋天,就一鼓作气,击破吐蕃七万余人的精锐部,先后收复了当狗、盐川二城。这首诗就是他击破吐蕃入侵的纪实。

头两句“昨夜秋风入汉关,朔云边月满西山”,开门见山,点出了诗人登城的时令、地点。“昨夜秋风”,是指秋季刚到,从而紧扣诗题中的“早秋”二字。诗人观察入微,从“风”的细化中确切地掌握秋天到来的信息,说明了他对时局的密切关注,对敌人动向的明察秋毫。对于古代地处中国边疆的游牧民族来说,秋高马肥,秋风一起,就是他们入侵内地的有利季节。因此,“昨夜秋风”一到军城 ,诗人就深夜难眠,他乘着月光登上城楼,放眼远眺,“朔云”、“边月”、岷山,尽收眼底。边关的初秋之夜,阴云冷月,山野惨白,整个夜景都弥漫着一股沉重的肃杀之气,给人一种无形的压抑感。次句中的一个“满”字,将阴沉肃穆、硝烟密布的战前气氛烘托得更加浓重。总之,头两句是写景,但景中有人、有情,细致入微地表现了主将在战斗前夕的宁静中细心观察敏捷思索的心灵侧面。

诗的后两句“更催飞将迫骄虏,莫遣沙场匹马还”,是主将兼诗人所发布的战斗命令——将士们一定要再接再励,乘胜追击敌人,彻底歼灭他们,不要让敌人一人一马逃回敌营去! “更催”、“莫遣”二词,语势斩截,有振雷走霆之力,表现了主将果断刚毅的气魄和胜利在握的必胜信心,洋溢着边防将士保疆卫国的奋发激昂的爱国热情。

这首诗歌大胆地采用了开阖跳跃的笔法来写景抒情,增加了诗的信息容量。前一二句写景,但景中寓情,点明主将已迅速、准确掌握了敌情,从而表明他在军事行动之前,就已经知己知彼,掌握了军事上的主动权,因此,稳操胜券就不是鲁莽匹夫的妄语了。有如此坚实的思想作铺垫,三四两句的腾跃、抒情,就显得既轻捷,又与上文有内在的承继性,令人感到自然可信、豪气倍增。
